11:15 AM - 12:00 PM
Case Study
Be the Match has an important job to do; we provide cures for blood cancer. Data is at the heart of our mission, but it’s not always easy to see the role that data governance plays in it. In this presentation, we will review how Be the Match is successfully approaching data governance in a way that keeps our life-saving mission at the forefront of our data governance initiatives, and vice versa.
We will discuss the practical approaches we use for:
- Aligning data strategy to business strategy
- Enterprise data standardization
- Establishing a data catalog
- Making data practices business as usual
- Measuring data governance success
- Increasing data fluency
Our goal is to equip you with practical data governance approaches that we have used to directly impact the lives of our patients. Our hope is that you can leverage these approaches to help ignite successful data governance within your organization.
Heidi Perry is an enthusiastic and creative data leader, with a focus on the healthcare industry. She is particularly passionate about establishing strong data literacy capabilities and data standardization practices, which aligns well with her background in teaching English. Currently, she leads the Data Governance and Services Team at Be the Match, a non-profit organization the facilitates bone marrow transplants between patients and unrelated donors. Her team focuses on getting data ready for primetime use by providing enterprise data services, including data architecture, data governance, data quality, and data analysis. When she is not working to save lives with data, she enjoys running, reading, and spending time outside with her family.
